24 weeks

24 weeks – just in the nick-o-time! I’m 24 weeks 6 days today, ha!

How Big is the Baby?

via

According to my apps she is about the size of an eggplant – 9 inches and 1.7 pounds. And according to yesterday’s ultrasound she is measuring at 1 pound 9 ounces, which puts her in the 45th percentile.

How I’m Changing

I feel like while I am all belly in this pregnancy (yay!), it isn’t growing much(?). This week’s top is the same that I wore in week 17:

And now:

I think I look barely any bigger now than I did then. But looking at other bloggers photos, the mid-20’s is when the belly really starts to grow, so maybe my bump is about to hit a growth spurt.

How I’m Feeling

Remember how I went to the chiropractor for the first time last week? Well, let me tell you, all round ligament pain is GONE! I had a follow up appointment yesterday and my pelvis had started rotating back again on the left side, so she adjusted it.

Aside from that I’ve been struck by the summer break cold that I get every year. Uggh, so annoying. I am a major baby when it comes to being sick and am a slave to Dayquil/Nyquil. Not being able to take my beloved meds has made me a sad panda.

What I’m Eating

My mornings generally start with a monster protein smoothie, followed by a lunch of leftovers (I miss deli meat!), and something grilled for dinner. I’ve also been enjoying a lot of kale and lettuce as both are taking over our garden. And by our, I mean the hubs…he has a green thumb, mine is black.

Odds and Ends

First, we celebrated Tim’s first Father’s Day (fun fact: Father’s Day was founded in Spokane). My parents sent him a card and I got him a card and fun book.

And second, above I mentioned that Baby Spinach was sitting pretty in the 45th percentile. You have no idea what a huge relief this is. As you may recall, I’ve had 4 anatomy scan ultrasounds between May 4 and this week. Baby Spinach was not cooperating at all!

At the one on Friday the 8th her head circumference was only measuring in the 8th percentile and her femurs were only measuring in the 12th percentile. Anything under the 10th percentile is worrisome, so my midwife ordered a 4D ultrasound at the Maternal Fetal Medicine wing at the hospital, with a follow up with the Perinatologist.

I was freaking out, thanks to Dr. Google, and spent the last week and a half very stressed out. Turns out her breech position and the fact that her head was wedged up next to my placenta made it impossible for the machine at my midwife’s office to get an accurate reading and now that she’s flipped the ultrasound tech was able to get a much more accurate reading.

Forty-fifth percentile sounds pretty great! The Prenatologist also said she’s in the optimal birthing position, so if she can just remember how she is positioned right now and can get herself back into it when the time comes labor should be easy breezy. We shall see.

Baby Spinach was, of course, not entirely cooperative again, and we didn’t get a cool 4D shot of her face. Her hands are always covering it and this time her face was toward my back. The doc said we’ll have to hold her down for family portraits, haha.

Here are some pictures from the ultrasound on the 8th:

I think she has my lips.

Things I can’t wait to eat again:  Deli meat (I’m really craving Jimmy John’s) and cold meds.

# of times I get up to pee each night:  1-2

Days until my next appointment: 3 weeks – and it is the glucose test, ick!

Total weight gained: 11.5 pounds

Cravings: sweets, sleep without interruption by cough

Aversions: packing up my classroom/moving it to a new room…but I don’t think that is a pregnancy thing.

What I miss: Dayquil/Nyquil

Have you ever freaked out due to a mis-diagnosis from Dr. Google or WebMD?

  1. So sorry to hear your are sick! I hope you feel better soon.

One time I had a major freak out. I woke up one morning and my urine was bright red. Through school I learned that blood in the urine is only caused by super bad things (kidney infection, muscle breakdown, kidney failure, etc) and I immediately went to the doc. Come to find out it was from eating too many fresh beets (something I had never eaten before!) How crazy is that?

Can’t wait to hear how your glucose tolerance test goes!

  2. You are looking wonderful at 24 weeks! …I had to go back to look at my 24 week picture; I wasn’t looking too big there yet but week 27 hit and I got huge- total growth spurt. Everyone just carries so differently- and it changes week to week- just how the baby is hanging out in there.
NO FUN being sick- I swear the body catches the news that summer is here and thinks it’s the perfect time to get sick. It happens to me too- and it is NOT FUN being without any medication. Hope you feel 100% soon!
….As for the whole percentile thing- I freaked out for weeks when I had low amniotic fluid around the baby. The doctor wasn’t too concerned because those ultrasounds are only ONE reading- and it varies so much and can have some error. I’m so glad to hear that baby spinach is growing and doing well! *hugs to you BOTH*

  3. Remember when I thought I had an ulcer (thanks WebMD) and it turned out I had escaped gallstones and needed to have my gallbladder removed? Yeah, those were good times! ;) Glad baby spinach is doing ok and is in the 45th percentile!!!
